Hello there! One of the interpretations of this song that some of you might benefit from is that is a message to self. Each one of us is imperfect, each one of us has to accept this imperfection. Yet despite this we have to make sure we love ourselves and don't give up on ourselves and not run away from we are, but rather honestly confront who we are so that we can improve and win the battle against this dark side. Because of five past relationships in particular (3 family, 2 "friends"), it is easier for a long-time homeless person to buy a mansion than for me to get into a romantic relationship of any kind (I wanted to date one of the "friends," but it went horribly wrong and ended abruptly before the dating phase). But there are two amazing women I call my best friends, one I have known since preschool and the other since 8th grade (for reference, I graduated high school 2 years ago). About 2 months before graduation, the symptoms of my most severe mental illness hit me out of the blue. "I can't tell anyone," I thought. "They'll be afraid of me and judge me. I'll be an outcast. It'll go away soon, I'm sure. Just grin and bear it for now." But it didn't. It persisted, and worsened. I cried multiple times behind closed doors, putting on a mask when anyone else was nearby. It made me severely depressed and even sick: I eventually threw up a couple times because I was so stressed out. One day about a week and a half later, the mask came off. In tears, I told my parents what was going on. Almost two weeks after the symptoms started, I got help. That night, I texted one of those friends about it, saying, "If you're afraid of me and don't want to be friends anymore, that's okay. I understand." I gave her the chance to leave me. I was fully expecting her to tell me how awful of a person I was, to take me up on my offer and never look back. She said, "No. I'm not leaving you. In fact, I'm *proud* of you for speaking up and getting help." We are still best friends to this day. I'm on medication and I refuse any kind of therapy (especially CBT - I'm willing to chat about it in replies: this is already a long post) because of bad experiences with social workers and therapists. And it's still a struggle sometimes but for the most part, I can actually function. I'm able to take care of myself and live a (mostly) normal life. My friend loves me despite my dark side. For that I can never be grateful enough. <3

I’m here because I found my old piano “sheet” music (handwritten and only the letter names written out, but I was a kid) and I couldn’t figure out what song it was until I found the first page, and now my stepdaughter has fallen in love with the piano like I did and is playing this same exact song on the piano using my sheet music.
